WOMEN'S CENTRE

Welcome to the only Women’s Wellness and Recovery Centre in Zimbabwe. This is a collaborative, educational learning environment for women and teenagers, partner organisations, supporters, staff, volunteers and students. We are pleased to state that our centre focuses on individual therapeutic needs of women and girls, as well as addressing practical needs and challenges that women face. Our centre offers counselling, peer support, self-esteemm workshops, physical wellness sessions, practical workshops on surviving domestic abuse for women and for men, amongst our many programmes. Women will also be offered free legal surgeries to safeguard their rights in society.

Out of the approximately 13 psychiatrists in Zimbabwe, 6 of these have offered their help and support for this project. Work at our centre will also be delivered by qualified occupational therapists, fitness instructors, counsellors and lawyers. The Center follows an adult education model and aims to deliver a responsive, peer-led education and training curriculum of recovery-focused workshops and courses. The model is borrowed from that being used in the United Kingdom.

All the courses have been designed to provide opportunities for discussion promote independent learning and offer an environment that is open and accessible.

What is it?

A Women's Wellness Centre aims to enable women who have had adverse life experiences to become experts in their own self-care and develop the skills and confidence to manage their own recovery journey. The focus is on using learning activity to complement traditional treatment approaches. Working practices are founded on co-production and shared decision-making.
